"New Jersey, Come See For Yourself" is the new state slogan. It was picked from among other citizen suggestions, but only after the state paid $260,000 in consulting fees to Lippincott Mercer. The professional firm came up with "New Jersey: We'll win you over." Acting Governor Dick Codey scraped the firm's slogan.
That's $260K down the drain...
What a disgrace...
Per word, the state paid over $43,000. Without "New Jersey" but expanding the contraction "We'll" to "We will" makes the price an even $52,000 a word. Each word cost enough to subsidize college tuition for a meritorious student, $13,000 a year for four years.
Of course, this is the same state government which (after a court order) allocated $6 Billion for 473 schools (that's $12,684,989 for each). The state-run Schools Construction Corp. built 132 schools and consumed their entire $6 Billion budget. That averages out to a shade under $45.5 million per school (golden showers not included).
