First, concerning Imus... my line of thought corresponds with Tony Blankley's in A Post-Imus Republic Of Virtue. I penned a headline 'Guillotine Takes Imus' but Blankley does a fabulous job with his article so I defer.
Second, Robert Novak has a great story about congressional obsession with pork, regardless of party. There has been plenty of talk about Jim DeMint (R-SC) being a Republican rising star and I think he could parlay this particular issue into a presidential run. Here's how I see it playing out: the first term senator utilizes congressional intransigence as justification for entering the race while his short tenure leaves little ammunition for opponents attacking his record.
With conservative pining for their white knight, DeMint announces in early-to-mid summer. That leaves enough time to raise $30-50 Million to use for February 5 states holding the so-called Super-Duper Tuesday. Because of his late entry, low percentages in Iowa and New Hampshire can be disregarded while an unexpectedly strong showing would vault him into the uppermost echelon. He presumably wins South Carolina on Feb. 2, gaining big momentum heading into the 5th and it's off to the races. A little far-fetched, but possible...
And finally, a few words about Gov. John Corzine (D-NJ)... How can he retain any legitimate authority? He was recently injured while his state-trooper driven vehicle was going 91 MPH (NJ's highest speed limit is 65, with fines doubled in those areas). He was injured seriously because he was not wearing his seatbelt (as mandated by state law). After demonstrably disregarding the simplest of laws, his credibility is null.
