The Iraqi Parliament has 275 seats. The Shi'a won 46.5% of the vote, Kurds got 21.1%, 20% for the Sunnis, 9% for Ayad Allawi's secularists, and 3.4% for miscellaneous parties.
- The leading Shi'a ticket (United Iraqi Alliance) took 128 seats, leaving UIA 10 seats short of controlling by fiat. They will be forced to form a coalition to create a majority, but they have multiple options.
- A secular Shi'a ticket, headed by former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, won 25 seats.
- The Kurds won 58 total seats, with 53 belonging to the Kurdish Alliance and 5 for the Kurdistan Islamic Union. The Kurdish Alliance is expected to form a coalition government with the Shi'a, possibly forming a firm majority.
- The Iraqi Accordance Front won 44 seats and another Sunni group, Iraqi Front for National Dialogue, won 11 (totaling 55).
- Miscellaneous parties won 9 seats.
These results (when adding the Shi'a groups together) roughly outline the demographic breakdown of the nation.
