Katrina's Misconceptions, Pt. II

Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco contacted President Bush one day before the hurricane hit and communicated the following:

"I have determined that this incident will be of such severity and magnitude that effective response will be beyond the capabilities of the state and the affected local governments and that supplementary federal assistance will be necessary," Blanco wrote.

To repeat, she realized the severity of the approaching storm a single day before landfall. There is a myth the President ignored Hurricane Katrina and a sinister insistence concerning racist motivation. I'd imagine Governor Blanco was following the storm more closely than the POTUS, yet very little attention was paid to her lack of foresight. Still, she wasn't slandered for her mistakes as was the President (for perceived errors).
