Pragmatic Maverick?

Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) is an 08' hopeful. He has not yet declared his intention regarding Judge Alito's confirmation. Perhaps he will follow Sen. Nelson's (D-NE) example and begin distinguishing himself as a practical politician.

As it was with Sen. Feingold (D-WI), the possibility is doubtful. The radical left is the donation base for Democrats (as the far right is for Republicans). A moderate, centrist tone denotes apostasy to these constituencies.
