The Plame Game

The much ballyhooed notion of malevolent Republicans intentionally leaking Valerie Plame's identity to sabotage Joe Wilson has been proven erroneous. While character assassins drooled believing it might be Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, or Don Rumsfeld (all evil, hawkish neo-cons), it turned out to be Richard (Dick) Armitage, the former Deputy Secretary of State under Colin Powell.

Mr. Powell and Mr. Armitage composed the cautionary element (from State) during the march to war. Mr. Armitage earned his stripes during four tours of Vietnam and can not be considered a pre-war partisan hawk, so the media's interest in the story has disappeared. He has since apologized for unintentionally mentioning Ms. Plame's name, though I think the left would've asked for more than an apology from Mr. Rove...
