Speaker Nancy Pelosi was quoted by a fellow Democrat saying, "Our goal is to end the war." How noble. Every American wants to end the war, but how and under what conditions? For the Democrats, those queries are irrelevant. Their rhetoric has been about failure for years and going back now is political suicide.
Mr. President, the line about your strategy is simple: "Here's my strategy: We win, they lose."
Everyone in Washington pays lip service to the jeopardies surrounding a precipitous departure from Iraq but as far as the Democratic leadership is concerned, it pales in comparison to another four years of Republican presidency. They tried to straddle a political tightrope in 04' with disingenuous declarations and failed. For 2008, their plan is (and has been for well over a year) derailment of the President and any notion of victory, irrespective of the consequences.
