The 'Christian Right'?

I often hear of a 'Christian Right' which influences the GOP. Are there no Christians on the left or are they just less well organized?

"Evangelized foreign policy?" appeared today via the Christian Science Monitor. It begins...

"When President Bush recently used a public forum to announce his support for a more robust international intervention in Sudan's Darfur region ... it was yet another milestone for the rising interest of Christian evangelicals in US foreign policy."

If it's an evangelical policy to stop genocide, whom is taking the opposite position? And what does the author mean by 'yet another milestone'? Are Christians crafting free trade proposals? Today's 'Christian Right' is composed of individuals who believe there shouldn't be a barricade separating religion and government. Our government is composed of American men and women; the day church and state are completely separate is the day America is dominated by atheists.
