May Day

For those who haven't heard, there is talk of a May 1 demonstration. Organizers have urged immigrants to boycott work for the day and to pull children out of school. They want to display the importance of immigrant labor while showing potential political clout via the children.

I think May Day is a good idea (despite the risks), though the children should be excluded. It unnecessarily marginalizes them among their classmates. The unintended message is indifference toward education. The protest can be effective without including the children.
