The NFL had a red-letter day:
- The Pittsburgh Steelers hired a new head coach, giving Mike Tomlin one of the most secure jobs in the country. The thirty-four year old coach is Pittsburgh’s third coach in the last thirty-eight years and the franchise’s first black head coach.
- The winning coach from each conference championship game, Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy, are the first and second black head coach to lead their team to the Super Bowl, respectively.
Much attention is paid to the NFL’s coaching fraternity and its lack of black head coaches, especially in a sport with a so many black athletes. Herman Edwards, Marvin Lewis, Romeo Crennel and the previously mentioned are among the very best coaches in the league. Just the latest proof that bigots are subnormal pudding heads.
